Every so now and then people put their old mattress in/at the bins in the car park, thinking that they can dispose of it that way. However, this is not possible!
The bins are for bagged domestic waste and/or for recyclable material only, as is indicated by the signs above the bins.
Most retailers will take away your old mattress when delivering a new one. If this is not the case, you can bring the old mattress to the recycling center from the City Council, or call a private contractor such as Friends of the Earth, who will collect the old mattress and recycle as much as is possible. Residents who leave their old mattress at the bins will be contacted by the caretaker so that proper disposal can be arranged. This usually involves charging the tenant or the landlord, so it’s better and cheaper to follow the above guidelines.
